As nostalgic as it may sound, talk about your roots and origin. When you meet someone new, a question that usually gets asked is, where are you from? You’ve had a conversation like that, right? There’s an opportunity to make a personal connection with the listener because they can  relate to where you are from or to your background. You can also focus on the future to foster a following. Is its’ focus political in nature, dealing with the listener’s socio-economic status , or their social belief system? Your efforts should convey this in your message. If you don’t have a clear mission, it’s easy to lose peoples’ focus if  they find it too hard to follow.

What type of audience am I striving to reach?

Knowing who your listeners and understanding their listening habits can be immensely beneficial. If they are in a younger generation, the social media website Twitter could be is a powerful method to  to use to reach them . Conversely, if you are are focused on an older population, different types of media may be more effective. Or if people are a part of a particular special interest group, then you should reach out to organizations that are aligned with those beliefs.

Where is your audience spending their time?

They can be found both physically and virtually. Some ways of locating listeners online can be using search engine keywords or social media geographic ad targeting. Offline opportunities can include billboards, flyers, and other print media. Depending on your target audiences’ demographics will help determine how you can reach out to them. Need an idea on how to figure out what consumers do in the spare time? Ask where they get their news. Whether it is outlets like television, radio, or social media, people are giving their attention to certain avenues. Once you figure out which ones your customers are choosing, you need to advertise in these channels.

  1. Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
